This will be the fifth International Symposium on Medieval Studies held at the University of Arizona, Tucson
In the true spirit of a symposium, there will be no concurrent sessions, and the entire scholarly meeting will be a concerted interdisciplinary group effort to explore how people in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance viewed, discussed, fought over, and dealt with sexuality in its myriad manifestations. Whereas previous topics focused on “Love, Marriage, and Transgression” (2003), “Childhood” (2004), “Words of Love and Love of Words” (2005), and “Old Age” (2006), the 2007 symposium will target one of the fundamental forces in human life, sexuality. Much has been written on this topic, but it remains a highly complex, sometimes even elusive issue which only interdisciplinary research can fully come to terms with.
Maximum participation: 25 speakers. There are plans to publish selected papers.
Languages accepted at the symposium: English, French, German, and Spanish. Abstracts of all papers will be posted well ahead of the symposium.
